Offensive graffiti was written on the fence of the Assumption Cathedral in Tuzla on Tuesday evening, priest Nikola Čeketić said today.

“Some vandals and hooligans, probably, last night they wrote with a marker on the posts of the fence around the temple,” said Čeketić.

Condemning this scandalous act, which does not contribute to coexistence, Čeketić said that this act had been reported to the police.

The Committee for Interreligious Cooperation Tuzla strongly condemned the vandal act of writing inappropriate words on the fence of the temple, stating that it is an architectural pearl of sacred architecture.

“This is not only a national monument and one of the recognizable symbols of Tuzla and its surroundings, but for 140 years it has been a meeting place of Orthodox spirituality and culture with all the diversity and mosaic of religious pluralism of the city of Tuzla,” stated the Committee for Interreligious Cooperation of Tuzla.

Expressing surprise and disappointment with this attack on the values and symbol of common life in Tuzla, the Committee for Interreligious Cooperation called on the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tuzla Canton to find the perpetrators as soon as possible.

Adnana Sprečić, spokesperson for the Tuzla Canton Ministry of Interior Police Administration, said that the police were informed last night around 10:00 p.m. that unknown persons had written offensive graffiti on the fence of the Cathedral.

She said that the police had conducted an investigation and were working on clarifying this case and added that the duty prosecutor of the Tuzla Cantonal Prosecutor’s Office had been informed about this event.
