svecana_sjednicaThe ceremony included the presentation of awards and the award of the city of the City Council last night in the National Theatre Sarajevo to mark 6 April, day of the city of Sarajevo.

The ceremony was attended by numerous officials and prominent figures from the political, cultural and social milieu of B&H, and representatives of the diplomatic corps in B&H, as well as city council members and municipal council members of four city municipalities, as well as guests from Dubrovnik, Zagreb, Pula, Konya and Novi Pazar.

Guests and invitees were welcomed by host and Mayor of Sarajevo Ivo Komšić, who sent all the best wishes for the holiday of freedom, the day when 69 years ago Sarajevo won a victory over fascism and Nazism.

He pointed out that no other city in the world has kept such diversity and allowed them to live together, supporting each other and living together for so long.

However, he thinks that it is necessary to underline 6 April 1945 when Sarajevo was aligned with the world anti-fascist forces and entered modern European history, the history of freedom, equality of nations and democratic development.

‘’Unfortunately, 6 April for Sarajevo was also the start of a new suffering for the city and its citizens. On this day in 1992, a total blockade was imposed on Sarajevo, which lasted more than 1.400 days and in which more than 11.000 citizens lost their lives, of which 1.500 were children, he said.

Mayor Komšić stressed that Sarajevo, due to two anti-fascist wars rightfully became the moral capital of the world. He said that the Sarajevo event to mark the 100 years since the start of WWI wishes to send a message of peace and solidarity, understanding and dialogue.

Mayor Komšić handed over recognition to laureates and the awards of the city of Sarajevo in 2014, and the 6th April award of the city of Sarajevo.

The Sarajevo Snowflake went to the youngest B&H songwriter Edin Talović, plaque of the city of Sarajevo posthumously to Husein Hasani, known as čika Mišo, the recognition ‘Graham Bamford’, which is given for outstanding civic courage went posthumously to Goran Čengić and Srđan Aleksić, and the recognition for Honorary Citizen of Sarjaevo went to Tilman Zulch.

The collective 6th April prize of the city of Sarajevo went to the B&H football team, group architects Ferhad Mulabegović and posthumously to Smajo Mulaomerović, and actress Nada Đurevska.
