The draft law on the special register and publicity of the work of non-profit organizations, which will be on the agenda of the National Assembly of the RS tomorrow, must be withdrawn, because such a law has no place in a democratic society, OHR announced.
The OHR states that this law aims to “silence and intimidate civil society organizations, suppress freedom of association and expression, and threaten pluralism and criticism of government policies.”
Civil society organizations have an essential role in democratic systems, OHR believes, adding that “the Government of RS shows a lack of trust in its own citizens and wants to control them”.
“The attacks on citizens’ right to association must stop and should not be afraid of criticism,” the OHR statement said.
