Olympic Beauty Jahorina threatened by unplanned Construction

The Sarajevo-Romania region rests on the Jahorina mountain, which is the engine of development of this part of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Jahorina has reached the level of the most recognized ski centers in the region, but like most mountains in our country, it is threatened by unplanned construction.

In the months behind us, Jahorina was the center of the region primarily thanks to the modern ski center and the system for artificial refreshment.

“I think that thanks to that, we held 130 days of skiing and provided the best skiing on the mountain, we had 315 thousand skiers and 150 thousand non-skiers,” Dejan Ljevanic, director of the Jahorina Olympic Center, said.

Data show that this mountain beauty was visited by almost half a million tourists in the past winter tourist season, and a large number of them are expected in the summer season as well. A large number of events and the richest offer, that is in short what awaits the guests. Everyone says the goal is for Jahorina to live 365 days a year.

“On the second of July, we planned to open a beautiful hiking trail on Jahorina, that is something that is missing, we have trails, but we lack organized, mapped, marked trails, what our tourists are actually looking for, and we will insist on that this summer,” Igor Ikonic, director of the Tourist Board of the City of East Sarajevo, explained.

Skiing, as our interlocutors tell us, is already one type of economic branch in Jahorina.

“We organize ski schools on Jahorina where we try to bring as many children as possible between the ages of 6 and 10 to our mountain to train them to ski so that tomorrow they can be the users of all the facilities in the tourist center on Jahorina.”

And that should be a lesson to everyone – Jahorina lives from skiing, not from construction, which did not bypass this BiH. mountain beauty. Unplanned construction threatens private buildings, weekend houses, and ski resorts, say the Jahorina Olympic Center. A billion marks of investments, 300 thousand new square meters will mean the electricity supply of Jahorina is questionable, and all responsibility when it comes to construction, they tell us, lies with the municipalities of Pale and Trnovo.

“Now the municipality of Pale has issued a building permit to build four towers with 12 floors each. There will be nothing, it will be empty, the price per square meter is already 4,000 euros, when those towers are built and everything, people will lose interest, real estate prices will start to fall. rent prices, there will be no interest from investors,” Nedeljko Elek, the president of the Supervisory Board of the Olympic Center Jahorina, added.

They are sending a public appeal to the authorities to stop the process of issuing permits or to ensure that the quality of construction is in harmony with nature. Otherwise, nature will be destroyed on this Bosnian-Herzegovinian beauty, which has reached the level of the most recognized ski centers.
