A large cruiser with several thousand passengers sailed into Neum this morning and was the first to pass under the Peljesac Bridge, and the largest to ever sail into the area.
It is about the ship “Bolet” on a cruise from the Bahamas, which is a little more than 237 meters long and 32.5 meters wide. It has 12 decks, can accommodate 1,380 passengers and sail at a speed of 25 knots.
Air Draft or the height from the water to the highest point on the ship is 48.1 meters, and the allowable passage height under the Peljesac Bridge is 55 meters. The captain of the cruiser is Jozo Glavic from Dubrovnik.
The floating hotel anchored in Neum at around seven o’clock and will be there for the next 14 hours.
Daniela Matić, President of the Municipal Council of Neum, said yesterday that the announced entry of the cruiser “Bolet” into the Neum aquatorium is inadmissible.
“I believe that something like this is unacceptable. Neum is not a port and therefore large ships have nothing to do in our bay. The entry of this and similar ships into Neum Bay means automatic endangerment of ecosystems and pollution that will cause significant damage to Neum,” Matic said in a statement. for the public.
She warned that possible sea pollution, which could occur due to the entry of a 230-meter-long cruise ship with more than a thousand passengers, would endanger not only nature but would jeopardize the entire tourism in Neum.
She added that she supports the position of Neum residents who opposed the entry of the cruiser “Bolet” and announced protests.
