In the Eurofast action in Kosovo, Gezim Cela, one of the biggest drug lords in the region, was arrested.
Furthermore, he was a high-ranking member of the police in the past.
Allegedly, he used his villa for drug trafficking. It was there that the police found 18 kilograms of cocaine.
Several arrest warrants were issued for him.
In June 2014, Albanian and Kosovo police destroyed a structured criminal group that was smuggling hard drugs from Turkey to Western Europe, also using Albanian territory.
The Albanian court then released Cela on the grounds that he was suffering from a serious illness.
There is a verdict for him by an Italian court for 11 years in prison, as well as a fine of 150.000 euros, on charges of international drug trafficking.
Before he was involved in the drug trade and became the head of a cocaine smuggling gang, he was an officer of the special police forces. He held that position before 1997.
The 55-year-old is accused of drug trafficking and unauthorized production and possession of weapons, Indeksonline writes.
