Tomorrow, the District Court in Doboj will sentence Damir Bubalo, who at the beginning of the trial pleaded guilty to the crime against civilians in Derventa committed in 1992.

At the beginning of the trial, the accused Damir Bubalo told the Council of the District Court in Doboj that he pleaded guilty to all counts of the indictment.

As a former member of the Croatian Defense Council (HVO), he is accused of beating civilians of Serbian nationality and participating in their illegal imprisonment from April to June 1992 in the building of the former Yugoslav People’s Army (JNA) Home in Derventa.

Bubalo pleaded not guilty at the end of December 2021.

At the hearing, it was said that the admission of guilt was preceded by the unsuccessful conclusion of an agreement between the District Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Defense.

The prosecutor Mersiha Mehmedagic and the defense attorney Dragan Radovic confirmed that they had agreed on the amount of the criminal sanction of one year in prison, but that they failed to agree on compensation for the damages for the four victims.

The Prosecution requested 15,000 BAM for damages, while the Defense’s proposal was 7.000 BAM.

The District Court in Doboj will pronounce its verdict tomorrow, Detektor reports.
