Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said that one policeman was killed in Loznica last night, while another was seriously wounded.

Dacic said in a written statement that the murder and wounding happened last night, around 00:55 in Loznica, during a vehicle control at the checkpoint in Lipnički Šor, after the police officers of the Trbušnica Border Police Station stopped a Tutina-registered car in which they were two people.

“When getting out of the vehicle, one person fired a pistol, hitting police officer Nikola Krsmanović (34) in the chest and police officer Vjekoslav Ilic (50) in the shoulder, after which he ran away,” Dačić said.

Both police officers were transported to the Loznica General Hospital, where Krsmanović succumbed to his injuries.

“One person was brought in tonight with gunshot wounds to the soft tissues of the back and shoulder. Currently, his condition is stable, he is hospitalized for surgery”, they stated in the Health Center of Loznica.

On the spot, the police found the suspect’s passport, which, as Dacic said, was issued by Kosovo institutions in the name of Hajziri Artan (33) and a German identity card.

The MUP stated that strong police forces are intensively searching for the attacker, police officers from the Šabac Police Department, as well as from the Criminal Police Department, the Border Police Department and members of the Special Anti-Terrorist Unit are on the ground, as well as that drones and helicopters have been raised.

The investigation of the senior public prosecutor from Šabac and members of the police is ongoing.

“I send my deepest condolences to the family of the murdered policeman on behalf of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and on my own behalf,” said Dacic, Beta writes.
