The statistical agency Metrics conducted a survey on the territory of the Republika Srpska on citizens’ support for BiH’s entry into the European Union. According to their research, only 18 percent of respondents support this initiative.

It is a devastating fact that even 60 percent of those surveyed do not know what membership in the European Union brings, and it is interesting that those who speak some of the foreign languages – mostly support this initiative.

“What is interesting to me is that there are five percent of respondents who believe that the European Union will not exist in 10 years. I believe that we are once again reaching insufficient promotion, but also the geopolitical situation in Europe, but also in the world”, said the Minister for European Integration and International Cooperation of the RS, Zlatan Klokić.

The survey was conducted last month on a sample of 1,200 respondents. The telephone method of data collection was used.

“We have 51 percent of respondents female and 49 percent male. The average age of our residents was 49 years, and when it comes to the educational structure, most of the respondents had a medium level of education,” said Marija Prerad, representative of Metrics.

The majority of respondents believe that RS will be a better place to live in five years. Although, there are those who expressed concern for its survival.

“I think it is due to the constant pressure of the international community towards RS. That’s why we have 40 percent of respondents who feel insecure about the survival of the RS,” said Minister Klokić.

It is interesting to note that about 75 percent of the surveyed citizens consider Serbia, Hungary, China and Russia to be friendly countries.
