In 2023, 684 babies were born in Brčko, which is 47 less than a year earlier, it was confirmed by the Public Health Institution “Brcko Health Center”.

“357 male and 327 female babies were born, and we performed a total of 259 surgeries, while in 2022 we performed 176.. In earlier years, for a period of 10 years, we recorded five to six cases of uterine or ovarian cancer, while now we detect one case every month,” said Slavko Nikić, head of the Department of Gynecology in Brčko, adding that compared to previous years, there were significant increase in the number of patients with malignant diseases.

He said that examinations and births in the Hospital in Brčko are increasingly being announced by women giving birth from neighboring municipalities and towns such as Modriča, Šamac, Pelagićevo, Obudovac, Čelić, Srebrenik, Bijeljina and Gradačac, and that one of the reasons for the smaller the number of births is that an increasing number of young people are leaving BiH.

The Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics of the Zdravstveni centar Brčko appealed to all women to perform gynecological examinations more regularly in order to be able to act preventively in the event of the appearance of malignant diseases.
