Forty Illegal Migrants intercepted in Bijeljina

In the area of Bijeljina Police Administration, 19 illegal migrants were intercepted while entering the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina from neighboring countries on Thursday.

Eight people of African origin were identified in the city, with no identification documents, and after the security checks, it was concluded that they are illegal migrants from Pakistan.

During the evening, 11 people were found in Ugljevik without identification documents, and later it was found that they are illegal migrants from Afghanistan (3), Syria (2) and Iran (6).

In the area of the Bijeljina Border in the last 24 hours, a total of 40 illegal migrants were intercepted.

These persons did not have any certificates of their intention to take an asylum application and were handed over to Bijeljina Police Office in Bijeljina.

Since the beginning of the year, 946 migrants were intercepted.

The Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) accepted the information on the inflow of migrants in BiH.

According to the Information, in the period from January -7 February 2019, the Foreigners Affairs Service registered 997 illegal migrants.

The intent to submit an application for asylum in this period was expressed by 828 persons, while only 17 of them filed an application for asylum.

Majority of migrants came from Pakistan (17.1 percent), Syria (15.2 percent), Iraq (14.4 percent), Algeria (12.7 percent) and Morocco (10.9 percent).

In the period from 28 January to 7 February 2019, 301 illegal migrants were registered by the Foreigners Affairs Service, while 243 persons declared intent to submit asylum application, while only eight of them submitted the asylum application.
