An observation flight will be carried out over Bosnia and Herzegovina from May 13 to 17, recording the territory with sensors, in accordance with the provisions of the “Open Skies” international agreement.

The Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Communications and Transport and the Sarajevo International Airport, will carry out an observation flight of the Kingdom of Spain, the Benelux, the Portuguese Republic and Romania over Bosnia and Herzegovina, in accordance with the provisions of the international agreement “Open Skies” from May 13 to 17, announced the Ministry of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Ministry of Defense of BiH informs the citizens that this is an announced activity, during which the crew of the plane and the international inspectors will be joined by an accompanying team of the Armed Forces of BiH and the Ministry of Communications and Transport, and that there is no need for concern and fear.

The observation flight will be carried out by a plane of the Romanian Air Force (RO AN-30). The exact time of implementation and the path of the observation flight will be agreed during the joint preparation, after the arrival of the delegation at the airport in Sarajevo.

The recording of the territory is carried out with sensors certified in accordance with the provisions of the Agreement, after inspection by members of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The “Open Skies” treaty is one of the security arrangements that allows the member states to record the territory of the state over which the observation flight is carried out with the aim of obtaining data on military forces and activities.

The purpose of the Agreement is to build and develop trust among the members.

BiH joined this agreement in 2003. Since then, in cooperation with other members, it actively participates in the realization of observation flights both over the territory of BiH and over the territory of other member states.
