The 6th Tuzla Summer Institute organized by Bosnia Initiatives for local development (BILD), the Tuzla Muftiate and the Catholic School Centre “Sveti Franjo” has officialy started today.
Christopher Brandon, director of the NGO BILD said that this Institute gathers around 150 pupils and teachers from the Tuzla Canton and from around the world. The idea to organize such an Institute was created in America while talking to the Grand Mufti Husein Kavazović. That is how we started to collaborate with the Behram Bey’s Medresa and the Catholic School centre in Tuzla.
“We are pleased to be able to receive such a great number of young people who will for the next two weeks learn many new skills, especially in English language but also lots of other skills important for a young person’s development. Although now we are on vacation, we have accepted to host an event like this with joy because it is an excellent opportunity for young people to educate themselves” – pointed out Vlatko Rosić, director of the Tuzla Catholic School Centre.
For the last five years the Tuzla Summer Institute was being held in the Behram Bey’s Medresa while this year it is being held in the Catholic School Centre which pleases greatly the Medresa’s director Ahmed Hatunić who thinks this represents a great connection between young people.
“Intensive programs based on learning foreign languages and cultures and volunteering can be of great help to young people. Those kind of programs are not sufficiently present in the official educational system in Tuzla Canton and B&H.” – claims Hatunić.
One of the participants is Mladen Pejić, a math student in Prague who went to Sveti Franjo High School.
“I am very pleased to be here and that such things exist in Tuzla and B&H. This is one of the ways for young people to start doing something useful for their community and to prepare better for the period after high school. A big problem young people are currently facing is that they usually finish high school or university with no idea what to do after. I believe this is a great chance for us to develop practical skills like for example how to write a CV or to present ourselves during an interview and finally how to present ourselves in the business world. All those things contribute to the growth and development of our country and community.” – said Pejić.
The mission of the Tuzla Summer Institute is to teach practical skills in order to prepare the participants for universities, business carriers and roles they have as being part of a democratic, secular, multi-ethnic society.
