Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has said that “the European Union will collapse within two to three years if it continues with its current economic policies, without urgent fundamental changes”.
“Unless the Germans and the French come up with something and take the EU to a new level, its days are numbered. There is no need to withdraw from it, it will collapse on its own if things continue like this”, Orban said.
Referring to a report on the decline of the EU by Mario Draghi, former Italian Prime Minister and former head of the European Central Bank, the Hungarian leader pointed out that “today we are saying what one of the most insightful European economists said – the EU is approaching its end if urgent and radical changes are not implemented in the next two to three years”.
Orban assessed that Hungary would be better off remaining in the EU, because it supports the concept of the European community.
“However, if it were properly organized, it would serve the interests of the members well”, Orban believes.
