The new aid package for Ukraine worth 50 billion euros is intended to support the Ukrainian economy, which cannot survive without the support of the EU and the US, and is not related to the procurement of weapons, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said.
“These 50 billion that we are talking about will not be spent on weapons, but are intended to prevent the collapse of the Ukrainian state, which has reached bankruptcy. In terms of the Ukrainian economy, Ukraine has failed. If the Americans and we, the Europeans, do not send weapons, “the action will to be closed”, and that means no pensions, no payment of anything,” Orbán said to the Hungarian “Kosut radio”.
He pointed out that the issue of military aid to Ukraine from the European Peace Fund will be discussed at the meeting of EU foreign ministers.
Orban emphasized that Hungary has not sent any weapons to Ukraine nor does it plan to do so, “Sputnik” reported.
According to him, Hungary wants to talk about peace and has sent money for peace, but this is impossible, since the West thinks that time is on its side and that the military situation in Ukraine is improving the longer the war lasts.
“I think the truth is the opposite, that time is on Russia’s side and that the longer the war lasts, the more people will die, and the balance of power will not change in favor of Ukraine. So why are we continuing this war?” Orban asked.
The leaders of the European Union reached an agreement yesterday to allocate 50 billion euros of macro-financial assistance to Ukraine for the period up to 2027.
The total value of EU macroeconomic aid to Ukraine last year amounted to EUR 18 billion, and was transferred in monthly transactions of EUR 1.5 billion each. This aid was provided to Kyiv unrelated to the implementation of reforms and the fight against corruption, AA writes.
