OSCE Mission Supports BiH Institutions in Area of Security and Defense

The BiH Minister of Defense Zekerijah Osmić with his colleagues received yesterday in Sarajevo the Head of the OSCE Mission to BiH Ambassador Fletcher M. Burton.

Ambassador Burton was accompanies by retired Brigadier General Herald Quiel, Head of the Section for Security Cooperation and Ambassador of Switzerland to BiH Andree Schaller.

The Minister of Defense informed his guests of the current activities in the Ministry of Defense and BiH Armed Forces and said that current cooperation of the OSCE Mission to BiH and the BiH Ministry of Defense was successful and that the institution is committed to continuing cooperation in the future.

At the meeting they spoke of the implementation of military-political obligations of BIH with an emphasis on improving security standards of infrastructure in locations for weapons storage.

Ambassador Burton said that the goal of the OSCE Mission to BiH is to monitor the continuity of support to BiH institutions in the area of security and defense.

They specifically discussed the need to complete all procedures tied to the signing of the agreement between BiH and the OSCE Mission to BiH in the area of defense and security.

The Ambassador of Switzerland spoke of the actual need to establish a framework for the beginning of the implementation of the project to establish safe storage sites for weapons and ammunition in BiH.

He said that the current security situation of these storages does not meet the standards, which represent a danger for BIH citizens, the region and beyond.

The BiH Minister of Defense at the end spoke of the commitment of the Ministry for continuing cooperation on this and similar projects. He promised that he will personally be involved on these issues and will actively commit to hasting the signing of the agreement.
