Over 250 Students from Sarajevo Attend the General Rehearsal for Europe Day Gala Concert

Over 250 students from Sarajevo attended the general rehearsal for tonight’s Gala Concert at the Sarajevo National Theatre, which celebrates Europe Day, the green light for opening EU accession negotiations, and the 20th anniversary of the EU’s largest enlargement. Students from six Sarajevo high schools, including Prva gimnazija, Druga gimazija, gimnazija Obala, Gazi Husrev-begova medresa, Srednja muzička škola, and Srednja škola primijenjenih umjetnosti, had the opportunity to watch the Sarajevo Philharmonic and EU musicians rehearse Beethoven’s ninth symphony.

The fourth movement of Beethoven’s ninth symphony, known as the ‘Ode to Joy,’ calls for unity and for all men to become brothers, and for this reason was adopted as the EU’s anthem. In this spirit, tonight’s concert reaffirms the EU’s commitment to Bosnia and Herzegovina’s future in the European Union.

Tonight’s concert is organised by the Office of the EU in BiH, EU member state embassies and diplomatic missions, the National Theatre, and Sarajevo Philharmonic and is a celebration of the unifying power of art and music.

We warmly invite members of the public to attend the live stream of the concert on Susan Sontag Square in front of the National Theatre at 19:30.
