Pannonian Lakes Attract 250,000 Visitors So Far This Season

Extreme heat brings numerous problems, but also a greater need to spend time near water. The Pannonian Lakes in Tuzla are already recording a record number of visits. This is the most successful start to the season since the opening of the complex.

This year, Panonika approached the season with a series of improvements. What kind of improvements were made, and what kinds of amenities and events the City of Salt offers, were discussed in an interview with Amra Jaganjac, director of the Tourist Association of the City of Tuzla.

At the beginning of the conversation, she emphasized that what draws a large number of people to Panonika and Tuzla is the fact that it is a unique complex of salt lakes in the center of this city.

“With this year’s summer tourist season, we are heading toward perhaps reaching last year’s record, and who knows, if the weather serves us well, we might even break that record because we are already recording nearly 250 thousand visits to this complex with three salt lakes, with salt waterfalls, and with truly a multitude of amenities that somehow make the stay of all our guests at the Pannonian Lakes pleasant,” she emphasized.

She also points out that many visitors are staying much longer in this city.

“The length of stay for our guests is increasing every year. This year, and it was the case last year as well, we are recording more and more guests coming on organized visits through travel and tourist agencies, primarily from countries in the region, who come here for weekend visits, and there are quite a few who actually choose to spend their summer vacation, their full proper annual summer vacation, precisely at the Pannonian Lakes – that is, stays of 7 or 10 days,” explained Jaganjac.

She also explained that the city of Tuzla has seen over a 1.000% increase in capacity for accommodating tourists and guests, compared to the time before the Pannonian Lakes.

“In 2003, we had only eight accommodation facilities – hotels, motels, or guesthouses – today that number is over 100, including private renters, hotels, and we have noticed that the private sector has also followed this trend of tourism development in the city of Tuzla and has somehow recognized the increased tourist traffic, so there are more and more of those who provide this type of service, but also more and more content that truly makes the city of Tuzla a tourist city,” she concluded.
