Parents of children suffering from cystic fibrosis in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) yesterdaygathered in front of the Federal Government building in Sarajevo, complaining that due to the withdrawal of the federal budget rebalancing from the parliamentary procedure, the deadline for obtaining unnecessary medicine for the patients will be significantly extended, and that their children will be left waiting until further notice.
The Government of the FBiH previously, at the session held on July 4th of this year, made the Decision that it will divert two million BAM for the purchase of cars to the purchase of medicine for all sick children.
Considering the very long legal and medical procedures that must be followed in order to finally get a cure, the parents said that “their children cannot wait for that, that cystic fibrosis is a disease with a thousand faces, and that there is already one child from the Tuzla Canton (TC) in critical condition”.
For this reason, the parents requested an urgent meeting with the federal prime minister, Nermin Niksic, and in his absence, representatives of the Association for Cystic Fibrosis in BiH, led by president Elvira Muhic, were received yesterday by members of his cabinet.
”We were promised that next week funds will be allocated from the reserves for the medicine for cystic fibrosis. This makes us very happy, but until the children have the medicine in their hands, we will not give up our intentions. We were told that the FBiH Government will find a way and that the funds will be transferred to the Solidarity Fund as early as next week. We received promises that the problem will be solved on Monday, Tuesday at the latest,” Muhic pointed out.
