hijabPeaceful walk in a sign of disagreement with the decision of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (HJPC) of B&H on the prohibition of wearing religious symbols in the judicial institutions will be held on Tuesday, the 2nd of February in Zenica, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The organizers reported this event to Ministry of the Interior of ZDC and they obtained permission to gather.

To recall, the decision of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of B&H for all employees in the judiciary to draw attention to the prohibition on wearing religious symbols, caused many reactions and controversies in B&H. The Islamic community requested a review of the conclusion of the Council, assessing that it is an attack on religious freedom.

HJPC referred to laws, primarily the Law on Courts that was adopted in 2003 on the basis of which the controversial decision was adopted. It states that there is no place for religious, national and political features in the courtroom and the court building. At the request of Islamic community to clearly determine what exactly religious symbol is, the Council responded with the Convention on Human Rights as well as of the UN Charter.
