Extra 50 BAM as a New Year’s Gift to Pensioners from Municipality of Novi Grad SarajevoMinister of Labor and Veteran-Invalid Protection of the RS Milenko Savanovic said that the payment of pensions in the RS is regular and that they should be increased by 3 % from October this year, for which is necessary to allocate around 30 million BAM on an annual basis.

“Pensions are not high, but we are doing everything to increase them. That is possible with the development of the real sector,” said Savanovic, after the session of the Council for the monitoring of the state and reforms of the system of pension and disability insurance in the RS.

He noted that funds for the increase of pensions could be secured through increased payments of contributions.

“Currently, we have a total of 257,609 pensioners in the RS. When compared to previous years, we have increased the number of insured persons in relation to pensioners, which is a good thing,” said Savanovic and recalled that about 25 million BAM is allocated from the budget of the RS for payment of pensions every month.

Chairman of the Council for the monitoring of the state and reforms of the system of pension and disability insurance in the National Assembly of the RS Ilija Stevancevic said that the Government of the RS did not respect parliamentary conclusion from January 1, this year, to increase pension from 3 to 5 %.

“However, the Government of the RS decided to increase pensions by 3 % from October. The remaining 2 % will depend on collecting funds from contributions or other sources,” said Stevancevic and recalled that the Government of the RS owes more than 400 million BAM to the PIO Fund and it is good that the Government is paying pensions through the Treasury.
