US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced that he had signed a memorandum terminating more than $580 million in Pentagon contracts and grants that are not aligned with the priorities of US President Donald Trump and this Department.

“I am signing a memorandum terminating more than $580 million in contracts and grants that are not aligned with the priorities of US President Donald Trump and this Department,” Hegseth said in a video message posted on X.

Hegseth explained that he had ordered the termination of a contract related to the Human Resources Software Initiative, whose original budget was increased by 780 percent, from $36 million to $280 million.

He also said he was suspending contracts worth a total of $360 million aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions from US Navy ships, which was part of the environmental agenda of former presidents.

Hegseth stressed that the Ministry has managed to eliminate “more than $800 million in wasteful spending” in the past few weeks.
