People in BiH are discriminated against on different Grounds

Director of the USAID Mission in BiH, Courtney Chubb, said that International Human Rights Day is an opportunity to draw attention to the brave and important work of people who work on the protection of human rights and that their courage always comes in the first place.

The Director of USAID Mission to BiH addressed the participants at the event “Toward Human Rights Day: #INSPIRIRAJPrava” organized by the Human Rights Protection Support Program (USAID/INSPIRE).

The event, where representatives of the state, non-governmental and private sectors, international organizations active in the field of human rights protection, the media and the academic community discussed important topics for reflection on the importance of local and international responses, was organized on the occasion of marking the International Human Rights Day.

Chubb pointed out that a lot of work has been done in Bosnia and Herzegovina to protect human rights and that human rights activists face different challenges. People today, she added, are discriminated against on different grounds, based on ethnicity, gender, or belonging to the LGBTQIA+ group, and they all share a common challenge, which is that they are denied human rights.

“All of them must have the same access to their rights as all other fellow citizens. This is crucial in the struggle that many human rights activists are leading and who are often discriminated against just because they stand up for other people’s human rights. We must do everything so that these people enjoy the same rights as everyone else,” said Chubb.

She invited everyone to start appreciating common humanity and similarities, but above all, differences because they are exactly what unites people.

Two thematic panels were held where the state of human rights in Bosnia and Herzegovina was discussed, and these panels were about the inclusive and responsible society of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the people who make a difference, Fena news agency reports.
