lavicaThe import license is ready and the Sarajevo Zoo will  receive a lioness. It is still necessary to obtain the needed documents at the Zoo in Croatia, such as export license and medical records.

The lioness is expected to be transported by the middle of next month, and the purchase of a new animal of a different species is planned for this year.

“20.000 BAM funding were allocated from the budget of Municipality Center. We will use this money to import another new animal species, from the group of monkey lemurs. Also, we will build a new shelter”, said Manager of Sarajevo Zoo, Esad Tajić for Radio Sarajevo.

He added that for some animal species, during the winter shelters are arranged with central heating, so these days everything is all right even though the temperatures are below zero.

Sarajevo Zoo began searching for a new lioness after the death of the previous one. After they found zoos that agreed to donate a lioness, the problem was the lack of funding for transport. The government of Sarajevo Canton could not provide 12.000 BAM for transport, and in the end the money was provided by Municipality Center.
