PM says Croatia will not impose Sanctions to RS Officials

Croatian Prime Minister and HDZ President Andrej Plenković said that he fully supports the demands of the HDZ BiH for amendments to the electoral law with the aim of achieving equality of the three constituent peoples and legitimate representation of Croats in the Presidency of BiH.

He said that they also discussed calming political tensions in BiH, taking into account broader global challenges.

“In the year when we mark the 30th anniversary of the Dayton-Paris Peace Agreement, it is particularly important that all political actors in BiH remain committed to respecting the constitutional framework.

Plenković believes that the EU will not impose sanctions on officials of Republika Srpska, and that Croatia will not do so either.

“It seems to me that the initiative to adopt sanctions at the EU level will not pass. “Following the positions of the member states, this is not realistic,” Plenković told reporters in Mostar after a meeting with the HDZ BiH.

He stated that Croatia is not in the same position as some EU countries.

“We are the closest neighbors, Banja Luka is literally an hour and a half from Zagreb, and from that side we want to send reassuring messages that will encourage dialogue, put things back in their right place, and the right place is for political parties and institutions in BiH to find solutions for the future of BiH,” said Plenković.

He stressed that anything else is not good, because it would lead to greater tensions, a slowdown in the European path, and a poor economic situation.

Plenković stressed that BiH has no other path than the European one that will ensure that BiH functions harmoniously.

At the initiative of Croatia, at the next meeting of the European Council, we will discuss the situation in BiH, Plenković wrote on the X network.
