warsawWARSAW, May 8 (Xinhua) — Polish Prime Minister Beata Szydlo expressed hope for renewed Polish-French relations in a congratulatory letter sent to French President-elect Emmanuel Macron on Monday.

Szydlo congratulated Macron on his victory in the presidential election and expressed hope that bilateral relations might see a new opening, both in political and economic dimension. She also invited Macron to take part in Polish-French intergovernmental consultations, according to Polish Press Agency.

The Polish prime minister also stressed that Europe was currently facing multiple challenges, such as the migration crisis, Brexit, and European Union reforms, therefore allies should speak with one voice.

Pawel Szefernaker, minister at the Polish prime minister’s Chancellery, also emphasized that Poland counted on good cooperation with France. Asked by Polish Radio One to comment on the shape of future Polish-French relations, he said he hoped that the president-elect would visit Poland to see a democratic and safe country.

Earlier on Sunday, Polish President Andrzej Duda also congratulated Macron on his election victory, saying he was looking forward to fruitful cooperation on rebuilding the confidence of EU citizens.
Macron won the second round of the French presidential election on Sunday, defeating his main rival, National Front leader Marine Le Pen.
