In the period January-May 2026, Sarajevo was visited by 286,288 tourists, which represents a growth of 3.6 percent compared to the same period last year. An even more significant indicator is the number of overnight stays, which reached 717,366, which is an increase of as much as 13 percent compared to the first five months of 2025.

As announced by the Tourist Board of Sarajevo Canton, the growth of foreign overnight stays of 10.5 percent is particularly encouraging, while domestic overnight stays recorded an increase of as much as 30.4 percent, confirming the attractiveness of Sarajevo among domestic and international guests.

In May 2026 alone, Canton Sarajevo was visited by 80,123 tourists who spent 169,346 overnight stays. Most foreign guests came from Turkey, Croatia, China, Serbia, Slovenia, Germany, the United States of America, Italy, Great Britain and Montenegro.

The President of the Sarajevo Canton Tourist Board, Haris Fazlagić, pointed out that the continuous growth of tourist traffic confirms that Sarajevo is strengthening its position on the international tourist map year after year.

“We are especially pleased by the fact that we are recording positive trends throughout the year, not just in the peak of the season. The growth of 13 percent in the number of overnight stays during the first five months shows that promotion activities, development of the tourist offer and support for projects produced concrete results. We expect that the upcoming summer season will be the most successful so far, with a large number of events, direct airlines and rich content that Sarajevo and the Canton of Sarajevo offer to their guests,” said Fazlagić.
