merhemica_trg_poplocanDelegation of the City of Ankara are interested in reconstructing of the square, changing it’s name into ”Square of friendship with Ankara in Sarajevo”, so the conceptual designs for a part of the Square Merhemića in Ciglane, and park at the Second Gymnasium were presented in the premises of the City Administration representatives of the Department for Urban Planning and Communal Affairs of the Centar municipality.

Đenita Bogunić-Kešelj, head of the Department of Municipal Affairs in the Municipality Centar, presented the project of rehabilitation of part of the Square Merhemića in Ciglane.

“This preliminary design covers an area of 600 square meters, located next to the newly built mosque in Ciglane. The area is located along the pedestrian zone with business and restaurants with mainly catering facilities on the ground floor, which is an attractive point for pedestrians. The paving of this part will be done, as well as setting up the accompanying furniture with plantations of trees and construction of fountains. The fountain would have six levels of processed granite in the shape of a square and built-in lights.” explained Bogunić-Kešelj.

The park next to the Second Gymnasium, which occupies an area of about 16,500 square meters of green area represents the active and passive recreation of the citizens in the urban part of town.

The presented conceptual design provides landscaping and paving footpaths, setting up the accompanying furniture harmonized with the environment. It is also planned to set up public lighting that will give the park a special charm.

After the presentation, guests from Ankara visited the two locations, and their hosts from the City Administration of Sarajevo also showed them the Liberation Square Alija Izetbegovic and the White bastion. The idea of the arrangement of one of these two sites and their possible renaming Square friendship Ankara occurred during last year’s visit to the Mayor of Sarajevo Ivo Komsic to this Turkish city.
