The documentary about the life and diplomatic career of Richard Holbrooke was premiered last night at the HBO channel.
Documentary titled “The Diplomat” is work of his son David, who is trying to explore the rich diplomatic career of his father.
Holbrooke was one of the most significant American diplomats in the past decades, and he was a man of trust for several presidents of the United States.
A significant part of the film was dedicate to the disitegration of Yugoslavia and aggression on B&H and Kosovo. Many ten to argue that precisely Holbrooke and his persistence are the most responsible for successful termination of negotiations in the American military base in Dayton.
One of the last functions to which Holbrooke was appointed was the Special Representative of the USA for Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Holbrooke died in 2010, and the film is premiered just several days before the 20th anniversary of the Dayton Agreement. Holbrooke described the details on negotiations in Dayton in the book “To End a War”, and many prominent individuals such as the President of the USA Barrack Obama or the former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton speak of his role in peace efforts to end the war in the former Yugoslavia.
