The President of the FBiH, Živko Budimir, met with the Commander of EUFOR, Dieter Heidecker, who recently took office. During the meeting, they spoke about the BiH armed forces, solving the problem of excess weapons and Euro-Atlantic integration.
The Commander of EUFOR informed President Budimir about the objectives of the mission, particularly the education and training of the BiH armed forces and supporting the solution of the problem of excess weapons in BiH.
He said, among other things, that it is necessary to support the President of BiH, as well as other senior officials, in order to fulfill key objectives that will lead to progress.
They both agreed that excess weapons are a question of the security of citizens, and that selling, destroying or donating can solve this problem.
President Budimir noted that the responsibility of the eventual sale of the weapons should belong to the BiH armed forces, and that this would be the fairest solution.
He said that this year should be the year where simple and efficient solutions should be found, and that there is no objective reason why we would not fulfill the requirements for NATO entry, and the cause for failure would be lack of political will.
“NATO is the priority for BiH”, said President Budimir, and added that the armed forces of BiH had to be depoliticized.
