Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić made a worrying assessment of global relations, saying that he believes the world is already at the beginning of a major war. He warned that international tensions could further escalate and that he does not expect peace to be established anytime soon.

Vučić spoke about the war in Ukraine, global relations and changes in the distribution of world power in the MD MEETS podcast of Mathias Dopfner, executive director of the German media company “Axel Springer”.
“If you ask me what I personally think, I believe that we are at the beginning of a bigger war. That’s why I was hoping that someone else would do something by now to restore peace. That did not happen nor will it happen soon,” said Vučić.
He added that, in his estimation, the world is “on the brink of a much, much bigger war.”
Vučić also said that he does not expect the end of the war in Ukraine this year, but not until the spring of next year. He pointed out that he currently sees no room for a compromise solution.
Speaking about the future relationship of world powers, he singled out the United States and China as key centers, while he sees the European Union as a potential third pillar of global power.
He especially commented on the new defense alliance between Turkey, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. On August 7, the three countries signed an agreement on collective defense, according to which an attack on one member would constitute an attack on all three.
Vučić believes that this alliance could further influence global relations and lead to new divisions.
His statements represent a political assessment, not a confirmed forecast of future events. However, they come at a time of war in Ukraine, new conflicts in the Middle East, and intensive realignment of international alliances.
