Everything is Ready for the Construction of another 44 Kilometers of Highway

This is currently the most certain section of the future road route towards Split.

Preparations for the construction of the highway between Banja Luka and Mrkonjić Grad have entered a final stage. After a public call in early August, another important administrative step was made, BiznisInfo.ba wrote.

A Proposal for Decision on the Adoption of the Parceling Plan for the Banja Luka – Mliništa Highway, specifically for the Banja Luka South – Mrkonjić Grad section, has been submitted for public inspection, paving the way for the document to be adopted at the National Assembly of Republika Srpska. The public inspection lasts 15 days, after which the document will be forwarded for further procedure.

Property – Legal Relations

In early August, the Prime Minister of Republika Srpska, Savo Minić, said there will be a public call for the construction of the Banja Luka – Mrkonjić Grad highway in the next two months, with a parallel solution of remaining property-legal relations and the enactment of a special law (lex specialis).

Alongside tender preparation, the publication of the proposed parceling plan demonstrates that the planning documentation required to begin the project’s implementation is also being finalized.

From the explanation of the proposal, it is obvious that the drafting process of the plan began in July last year, that the draft was available for public inspection at the beginning of this year, after which the received comments were reviewed, and the final proposal was drawn up, which is now being submitted for adoption.

The Banja Luka – Mrkonjić Grad section is about 44 kilometers long and represents the first stage of the future Banja Luka – Mliništa highway up to the inter-entity boundary line.

Traffic Connectivity

With the realization of this project, a significant improvement of the traffic connectivity of the Western part of Republika Srpska is expected, as well as a strong boost to the development of the economy and tourism. In the settlement of Podbrdo, near the planned route, two business zones with several manufacturing facilities have already been built, while new investments have also been announced.

This is currently the most certain section of the future road route towards Split, while the continuation of the route through the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia has not entered an equally advanced stage of preparation.

Following the completion of the public inspection and the conclusion of the procedure, the proposed plan should be considered by the National Assembly of Republika Srpska.

Upon its adoption, the plan will be placed on permanent public display at the competent authorities of the City of Banja Luka and the Municipality of Mrkonjić Grad, which will complete one of the key planning steps before the start of the highway construction.
