organic (1)President of the Association of Organic Producers of the FBiH, Sejad Herceg, said that this organization aims through its activities to show buyers, producers and decision-makers that organic farming is one of the essential factors for joining the EU, considering that one of the EU requirements is 3 % of agricultural land, as well as 10 % of total incentives, to be intended for organic production.

He added that fulfilling of these requirements would open great opportunities for employment and self-employment, increase production, reduce imports, GDP growth and a series of positive effects in environmental protection, which would ultimately contribute to the development of BiH, and increase standards of living, particularly in rural areas.

Herceg said that the demand for organic food continues to record growth in the world and certain forecasts indicate that it will increase in the next 20 years by 10 % to 15 %, and in some countries up to 40 %.

He emphasized that fulfilling of the above mentioned condition of the EU would open dozens of new jobs, and it would lead BiH to a leading position in the region when it comes to organic production.

Herceg stated that they will be doing promotions and fairs of organic production in Visoko, Zenica, Travnik and Bugojno in the next week, and that the relevant Minister Semsudin Dedic announced to visit organic farmers.

He emphasized that the Union Organic of FBiH is continuing to provide support to this sector in the whole Southeast Europe, since this Union is founder of the South East European Network Organic Network (SEEON) with headquarters in Berlin.
