Professor Amra Sabic-el-Rayess: Enough waiting for Charity from the West

”It was a good day for democracy, a good day for the United States (U.S.), ” said U.S. President Joe Biden in his first post-election address to the media. Despite inflation and economic and social problems and predictions ahead of the election, the Democrats achieved an excellent result.

Professor at Columbia University and writer Amra Sabic-el-Rayess says that the takeover of the House of Representatives from the Republicans is the result of a mistake by the U.S. authorities who initiated a package of aid to citizens during the coronavirus pandemic.

”Printing money to provide aid to every American caused the inflation that the population is protesting about today. Of course, the war with Ukraine cannot have a positive effect on the situation in the U.S. Similar political fights are taking place in the U.S. as in BiH, which are heating up polarization based on identity. Such a policy has never succeeded,” noted Sabic-el-Rayess.

She is concerned about radicalization and division among citizens, and has previously warned that serious violence caused by politics and ideology may occur.

”I think that the next campaign and presidential elections will again destabilize the U.S., and thus the world. I expect former President Donald Trump to announce his candidacy in the next few days. I think that the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), even the politicians, do not understand the seriousness of the situation in the U.S. and in general in the West,” adds Sabic-el-Rayess.

They are just waiting

She expressed the indignation and concern over the fact that BiH politicians, who welcomed the victory of Joe Biden with euphoria, did not impose key topics for the future of the country after two years of his mandate. Attempts to place responsibility and blame for the situation in BiH on the U.S. and President Biden are wrong.

They were elected to represent BiH, and “not to sit and wait for charity from the West”.

”I don’t know what the politicians in BiH are doing and what they care about, but the future and prosperity of the ordinarypeople and the state are obviously not their priorities. I feel and see how disappointed the people are. Inflation, the unemployment rate, children’s education, healthcare are important to U.S. citizens, why should a country that many people can’t even find on a map be important to them,” toldSabic-el-Rayess.

To solve problems

”It is sad that politics in BiH is waiting for someone else to solve their problem, and it is even worse that politicians used people to this in order to avoid their responsibility. The results of such a policy cannot be different until there is a change in the political mentality and until the politicians realize that they are the tailors of BiH’s destiny, that they must roll up their sleeves and become active. It is not possible to survive from charity, the future is not built on it,” Sabic-el-Rayess pointed out, Avaz reports.
