Project “Summer Olympic Academy Sarajevo 2013” Finished

ok bihThe BiH Olympic Committee successfully completed the project “Summer Olympic Academy Sarajevo 2013” under the auspices of NATO headquarters in Sarajevo.

The aim of the project is to familiarize high school students from all of BiH with fundamental Olympic values, sport in BiH, as well as the idea of multiculturalism of our country.

“This project is a huge step in strengthening the capacity for the development of new approaches, activities and strategies, which would promote respect, friendship, tolerance, excellence, and solidarity among young people in BiH. Nine high schools participated, represented by 36 students from 16-18 years old. The cities from where the high schools were chosen were: Fojnica, Olovo, Doboj Istok, Višegrad, Trebinje, Prijedor, Jajce, Livno and Široki Brijeg’’, announced the BIH Olympic Committee.

In the sports section of the project, participants had the opportunity to mingle with sports heroes from our country. Bulend Biščević, Emir Halimić, Nusret Smajlović and Husnija Kajmović educated participants in football, basketball, athletics and judo.

Participants also had the opportunity to socialize with champions of BIH such as Haris Bešlić, BiH representative in sledding at the upcoming Winter Olympics in Sochi, Admir Zukan, one of the best in karate in BiH, Hamza Alić, the current European Vice-Champion in shot put and bronze medal winner at the Mediterranean games in Mersin, Turkey.

The educational part of the program was held at the Olympic Museum of BiH, and speakers were general Hart, Commander of the NATO Headquarters in Sarajevo, Edin Branković, Olympic Ambassador of BiH at the IOC and Haris Jaganjac, leader of the project ‘ Olimpyc Summer Academy in Sarajevo 2013’.

Olympic Committee BiH expressed gratitude to NATO headquarters in Sarajevo, to Faculty of Sports and Physical Education, University of Sarajevo, to Public Institution-Center for Sports and Recreation of Canton Sarajevo, to Public Cantonal Company ZOI’84, and to all friends of BiH and sports that made this project so special.

After an excellent realization of the project, the Olympic Committee of BiH will continue with the implementation of these kinds of sport and educational projects throughout the state.
