[wzslider autoplay=”true”]A hot, summer day is an entirely different experience if you decide to visit the pearl of nature-the unique Prokoško Lake.

The lake is the most famous natural beauty of the Vranica Mountain of glacial origin, and is situated about 1660 meters above sea level. This oasis of peace, nature and mild climate is only 22 km away from the center of Fojnica city.

The lake is known as the habitat of Triton, endemic species from among the tailed amphibians, which has been on the list of protected species since year 1954. In addition, the lake is stocked with Californian trout.

On the southwest basin side of the lake, a larger number of cottages, summer pastures, livestock huts and houses was built, that make up the atmosphere dreamlike and idyllic, and which at the same time, according to the experts, disrupt the natural balance of the lake classifying it among the most threatened mountain lakes.

The residents of Prokoško Lake recommend visiting the village and lake in the warmer days of the year, because the village is hard to be accessed in the period from late autumn until April due to thick layer of snow. The place is known as a picnic site, and some locals also offer lodging at very affordable prices.

Besides that, the locals offer a rich assortment of organic food from the milk of domestic animals that graze medicinal herbs at the surrounding slopes.

If you have not been there yet, we highly recommend you to visit the Prokoško Lake, and until then enjoy the beautiful scenes from the photographs.
