Organized by the BiH Ministry of Security and four non-profit organizations (FBiH Association of Prosecutors, International Solidarity Forum EMMAUS, Association “Novi Put” and Association “XY”) and with the support of the US Embassy to BiH and Ambassador Patrick Moon, a presentation was held in hotel Sarajevo for a public presentation of projects to prevent human trafficking in BiH.
The US Ambassador Patrick Moon said how the fight against human trafficking is one of the priorities of the US Embassy in BiH, and that the Ministry of Security and organizations in BiH that are fighting against this have and will continue to have the full support of the US.
The BiH Ministry of Security Fahrudin Radončić said that our country until now has implemented action plans that the BiH Council of Ministers recently adopted a strategy and action plan to counteract human trafficking for the period of 2013-2015, which once again has expressed its full support to all actors involved in the fight against this crime.
Radončić said that special attention is placed on a new strategic document devoted to the prosecution of traffickers and protection and assistance to victims and prevention.
In the past year in BiH, 39 victims of human trafficking have been identified, and prosecutors have ordered 19 investigations against 42 people for human trafficking crimes. 15 indictments have been raised against 22 people, and the competent courts have imposed 11 convictions against 13 people.
Minister Radončić congratulated the associations for the excellent activities that they have carried out, and he especially thanked the US Embassy that is financially supporting these projects and once again expressed support for BiH and its efforts to build a safe environment for its citizens and wider.
