Reconstruction of the railway Sarajevo-Bradina, in the length of 39 kilometers, has been ongoing for over a year. Although the completion of works was planned for June this year, due to unforeseen obligations the deadline is prolonged and works will be completed until the end of July.
For over a year now, the company Generale Costruzioni Ferroviarie S.p.A has been working on the reconstruction of the railway section Sarajevo-Bradina and the reconstruction of the railway tunnel Ivan in the total length of 39 kilometers.
A combined team of Italian and BiH experts has been working on this exceptionally complex project since the spring of 2015. Their aim is to put the reconstructed railway in function, ensuring faster, safer and more comfortable transportation of passengers and goods.
Due to the reconstruction of the railway, the traffic of passenger trains on the route Sarajevo-Čapljina-Sarajevo and Sarajevo-Konjic-Sarajevo is suspended.
“We are currently working in full capacity and works are being executed on three sections and in the tunnel Ivan. Although the deadline for completion of reconstruction was six months, due to certain additional works we prolonged the official completion of works. Nice weather is in our favor so everything should be completed by the end of July this year,” stated the supervisor of the works, Ivana Kovačić.
After the railway towards the south of the country is put into operation, also expected is increased traffic of passengers who use Railways of FBiH, as well as additional popularization of that form of transportation, especially because traveling by railway will be made much more secure.
