After it was announced that the European Court of Human Rights responded positively to Slaven Kovačević’s appeal and decided that the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, should be one electoral unit, the reactions of domestic officials followed.
Nikšić: The judgment confirms the unquestionable truth, but unfortunately it does not mean that it will be implemented
FBiH Prime Minister and SDP leader Nermin Nikšić announced on Facebook about the verdict of the European Court of Human Rights on the appeal of Slaven Kovačević.
As he wrote, every new judgment of the European Court of Human Rights confirms the unquestionable truth: the future of European Bosnia and Herzegovina is the future of civil Bosnia and Herzegovina, a country of equal people where everyone’s rights will be equally protected, and no one’s right will be denied.
“Unfortunately, experience teaches us that the verdict itself in Bosnia and Herzegovina does not mean that it will automatically be implemented. Nevertheless, every judgment of the European Court of Human Rights traces our path and shows what we need and must do so that Bosnia and Herzegovina becomes a full member of the European family. I hope that this, as well as all the previous verdicts, will be implemented, because we all need it”, said Nikšić.
Nešić: We will not allow others to choose our representatives in BiH
Republika Srpska and the Serbian people will never allow others to choose their representatives, and Bosnia and Herzegovina will not and cannot exist on a unitary and centralist basis, said DNS president Nenad Nešić, commenting on media reports that the European Court of Human Rights “has responded positively to the appeal Slaven Kovačević”.
Nešić said that, after they completely majorityed the Croats and elected them a fake member of the BiH Presidency, the civil unitarians are preparing the same scenario for the Serbs.
“If it is true that the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, following the appeal of Željko Komšić – Slaven Kovačević, determined that his rights are threatened because he cannot elect all members of the Presidency and indirectly of the House of Peoples of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly, then the intention is clear that under the guise of civil rights, the Serbs are becoming the majority and that their representatives are also elected,” Nešić said, according to the DNS.
He said that he expects that all parties from Republika Srpska will have the same attitude and show national unity by defending the right of Republika Srpska to elect its own member of the Presidency.
Milićević: We have an internal consensus – RS elects its representatives
SDS President Milan Miličević said that stability in BiH can only exist if all three nations are equal and constitutive, and pointed out that the right of Republika Srpska to choose its representatives, protect vital interests is guaranteed and will remain so in the future.
“One member of the Presidency will be elected in the Republika Srpska, as well as the delegates in the House of Peoples, that is indisputable for me and I am convinced that we have an internal consensus,” Miličević said.
He emphasized that the Dayton Constitution precisely stipulated that the Republika Srpska elects one member of the BiH Presidency, and that five delegates to the House of Peoples are elected from the Republika Srpska, and that it is impossible to change these provisions without a two-thirds majority from the RS, SDS announced.
Miličević pointed out that any violation of the principles of constitutionality and equality leads to destabilization.
“That’s why I don’t understand this euphoria in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina after the announcement of the judgment from Strasbourg when they too have destabilized relations precisely because of such a choice of a Croatian member of the Presidency,” Miličević said.
How the FBiH will choose its representatives, as he says, is not a matter for Republika Srpska, which will not impose that solution on them, but neither will they on it, the announcement states.
