basThe reconstruction of the most iconic square of Sarajevo began on September 2nd, and in the second week the works are in full expansion.

Big project of the reconstruction of Bascarsija Square is worth 1.200.000 BAM, and it is funded by the Municipality Stari Grad and the Municipality Osman Gazi from Bursa, with the help of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA).

This is the first larger reconstruction of this part of the city in the past 30 years. Namely, the Bascarsija Square got its former look back in 1982.

It is currently being worked on the removal of stone plates at the section where the change of sewer pipes is to begin, and the total works should not take longer than 90 days to be completed. Therefore, the Bascarsija Square could be seen in a new light in early December.

The reconstruction of the Bascarsija Square is being conducted by the company “Neimari” Ltd., and on its own cost TIKA will renew the public lighting which should be better and stronger. Besides the square, the side street Abadziluk will also be paved, which will then make a whole with the streets Veliki curciluk, Kujundziluk, Abadziluk, Saraci and Bravadziluk.

After the reconstruction of the Square, the upgrade of the currently extremely weak public lighting in the street Saraci is taking its turn the following year.

Bascarsija is the historical heart of the capital of B&H and it inherits the culture, tradition, history of the land and people, where religious and cultural buildings, mosques, churches, synagogues, cathedral, gardens, clock tower, Sebilj fountain, Morica-han, Bezistan, locksmiths and other crafts are all located.

Numerous cultural events attract thousands of tourists from the world, therefore the reconstruction of the Bascarsija Square gains on significance.
