The divers from Mostar welcomed the female divers of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Championship yesterday and bestowed them with flowers. After that, Vedad Pašić performed the traditional Mostar Swallow dive from the Old Bridge in their honor.

That was an overture into the training of elite male and female divers prior to today’s first rounds of the Championship, scheduled at 1 pm.

Todor Spasov from Bulgaria was the first to jump off the 28-meter-high platform. The honor to be the first female diver to jump from the female platform set at 20 meters of height on the Old Bridge went to Yana Nestsiarava from Belarus.

Since the Old Bridge was closed for visitors, interested audience flocked into the surrounding catering facilities and the beach under the Old Bridge, wanting to see the world’s best divers and witness their incredible skills. Gasps and thunderous applause followed every dive and it is certain that a true spectacle will be held on the Old Bridge today and tomorrow.

Dive from the 28-meter-high platform lasts for three seconds. In that timeframe, divers must perform several turns, amaze the jury with their acrobatics, and plunge into the water immaculately, so that their dive causes as less water splashing as possible.

The Red Bull Cliff Diving World Championship starts tomorrow at 13 pm on the Old Bridge in Mostar. Fourteen of the best world divers and eight female divers will perform at the seventh stop of the championship which is being held in BiH for the second consecutive year. Entrance is free.
