The association “Heart for Children” is the host of the Regional Convention of young people cured of cancer, which started today and will last until August 12 in Sarajevo. 50 young people cured of cancer from the entire region (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Slovenia and Macedonia) are present.
The convention will be filled with educational and social activities with a focus on raising awareness about late effects of treatment and establishing a system for monitoring late effects.
“The event itself is co-financed by the European Union, in cooperation with the umbrella European association Childhood Cancer International Europe through the EU-CAYAS-NET project,” the Association states.
The opening of the convention was attended by the Prime Minister of the Sarajevo Canton Nihad Uk, as well as the director of the Association ‘Heart for Children’ Fikret Kubat and the board member of Childhood Cancer International Europe Lejla Kamerić and the representative of the EU-CAYAS-NET Project Arnela Kamerić.
The association ‘Heart for Children with Cancer’ is a non-governmental organization that has been in existence for 20 years, has more than 500 members and has become synonymous with the fight against cancer in Bosnia and Herzegovina. They have defined programs through which they provide support and help primarily to children suffering from cancer undergoing intensive hospital treatment, who are being treated at the Pediatric Clinic of KCUS, and to cured children, as well as to parents who have faced the loss of a child.
One of the Association’s program activities is support and help for young people who were cured of cancer in childhood, and they gather under the name mladiCe – a network of young people cured of cancer in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“The association gathers and supports more than 60 young people who suffered from some malignant disease in their childhood. Every year, our young people attend a regional convention held in one of the countries of the former Yugoslavia. This year, the Association ‘Heart for Children’ had the honor of hosting the aforementioned convention, as an associated partner of the EU-CAYAS-NET project,” the Association announced.
