The remains of at least one victim of the past war were exhumed today at the locality of Kacelj, 10 kilometers southeast of Ustikolina, in the municipality of Foca, in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
According to the information available to the Institute for Missing Persons of Bosnia and Herzegovina, it is assumed that this is a victim of Bosniak nationality who disappeared in this area in 1992. Along with the remains, shoes and some clothes were also found.
Investigators discovered the remains in this extremely inaccessible and demanding locality in the past period, which was followed by the demining of the terrain in order to create the conditions for exhumation, i.e. remediation of the terrain, the Institute stated.
After the exhumation, the remains will be transferred to the Center for Autopsy and Identification in Gorazde for forensic – medical and criminal – technical processing. Bone samples will also be taken so that these remains can be identified using the DNA method.
The exhumation was managed by the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and was carried out according to the order of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
