On the occasion of marking the 77th anniversary of the decision of the Ustasha High Court by which 55 Sarajevans were brutally tortured and hanged on the night of March 27th-28th, 1945, the Canton Sarajevo (CS), in cooperation with the Association of Antifascists and People’s Liberation War Fighters in Centar Municipality, organized a commemorative program yesterday.

In the Alley of Chestnuts, on Marijin Dvor, on the night of March 27th-28th, 1945, with the aim of intimidating Sarajevans, 55 people were hanged, just a few days before the liberation of Sarajevo in April of the same year. They were hanged by the decision of the Ustasha Supreme Court and the Ustasha colonel, war criminal Maks Luburic.

Paying tribute

Yesterday, at the Monument of Ustasha Terror, honor was paid and flowers were laid to the killed victims.

Students of the High School of Mechanical Engineering also read the names of fellow citizens who were brutally killed.

A minute of silence was held in honor of the victims.

Names of those killed

The president of the Association of Anti-Fascists and Fighters of the People’s Liberation War, Sead Djulic, said that it was necessary to cultivate a culture of remembrance.

”Neo-fascism flourishes around us, we actually live a neo-fascist society, then this is a place where we must be inspired for our battles against new neo-fascists, who do not allow us to live, and who prevent our homeland from growing,” told Djulic.

These people were hanged at Marijin Dvor: Omer Fazil Omer, Ragib Saric, Camil Skando, Muradin Cobo, Hajro Hadzovic, Mahmut Arslanagic, Hamid Avdic, Mustafa Spahalic, Hamid Talovic, Hasan Hajdarevic, Alija Meretlic, Salih Mujkanhodzic, Ahmed Vilogocrac, Sucrija Lukavac, Afan Opijac, Huso Islamovic, Lutvija Saran, Paso Avdic, Salko Zubcevic, Avdo Mulahasanovic, Edhem Kusturica, Pavle Pavlin, Andja Budjen, Ragib Kreho, Omer Delalic, Edhem Saric, Muhamed Potogija, Mehmed Karamehmedovic, Suljo Pasic, Stanko Rojnik, Kasim Saric, Zarko, Veljko and Zora Odovic, Mane Levnajic, Ana (Anka) Paukovic, Stefanija Cerkez, Ilijas Smajlagic, Stanislav Kesko, Hasim Sukrin, Ines Samardzic, Hamdija Hodzic, Mustafa Cemalovic, Marinko Tusevljak, Dusan Mocevic, Vladimir Mirkovic, Milan Zivak, Micentije Tadic, Milosav Mikailovic, Joco Likic, Milos Cikic, Milorad Petrovic, Borivoj Peric, high school students Vidoje Stevic and Slobodan Nikolic.
