Remittances from abroad to BiH in the first quarter amounted to 931.39 million BAM and are 72.94 million BAM or 8.5 percent higher than the same period last year, the Central Bank of BiH told Srna news agency.

Compared to the previous quarter, remittances from abroad in the first three months decreased by 15.4 percent, nominally by 169.53 million BAM.

The Bank stated that they do not have data on which countries BiH receives the most remittances from, because there is no official estimate by country yet, but it can be said that they mainly come from Western Europe, Scandinavia and North America, where the BiH diaspora is most present.

Total current transfers in the first three months amounted to around 1.24 billion BAM and are 44.46 million BAM or 3.7 percent higher than the same period last year.

Other current transfers in the first quarter amounted to 315.04 million BAM and are lower by 28.46 million BAM or 8.29 percent compared to the first three months of last year, while pensions from abroad amounted to 287.49 million BAM and are lower by 29.25 million BAM or 9.24 percent.

Last year, total current transfers amounted to around 5.69 billion BAM, of which around 4.17 billion BAM refers to remittances from abroad, around 1.52 billion BAM to other current transfers, and around 1.38 billion BAM to pensions from abroad.
