The municipal police in Zvornik removed the graffiti on the sports hall “Sokolski dom” glorifying the convicted war criminal Ratko Mladic, which was drawn a few days ago, which once again disturbed returnees and former inmates.
The Police Department Zvornik submitted a report to the Municipal Police after a few days ago graffiti glorifying Ratko Mladic was written on the wall of the “Sokolski dom” hall in Zvornik, where “hero” was written below the name. Although members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republika Srpska (RS) have not yet found the perpetrator, the graffiti has been painted over, it was said from Police Department Zvornik.
“It was removed by the Communal Police, but we have no further information. We are working to find the perpetrators, but in this case they are removing the graffiti that was written,” said Jovana Ivanovic, spokeswoman for the Zvornik Police Department.
The drawing of graffiti dedicated to the Hague prisoner Mladicdisturbed the returnees, and former camp inmate from Divic,Amir Efendic previously told that such inscriptions are the worst memories of what was experienced during the war.
International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals in The Hague sentenced Mladic, the former commander of the Main Staff of the Army of RS, to life imprisonment for the genocide in Srebrenica, persecution of Bosniaks and Croats, terrorizing the citizens of Sarajevo and taking members of UNPROFOR hostage.
With the amendments to the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) imposed by the former high representative in July 2021, in addition to the ban on denying genocide and other war crimes, it became punishable – with at least three years in prison – to award recognition, awards, monuments or any kind of reminder to a person convicted by a final verdict for genocide, crime against humanity or war crime, Detektor reports.
