Rescue Service in Bosnia warns on the Danger of Avalanches in Mountains

The President of the 2000 Rescue Service Club, Pašaga Grbo, warned of the recent, latent danger of avalanches, considering that the snow did not fall under strong winds, that it did not settle normally and has advised mountaineers and other nature goers to wait before going to mountains, and drivers should be extra careful on the roads.

“Snow is very mobile and sensitive to load and touch. The danger in the mountains particularly looms in untreated and unmarked areas. We suggest mountaineers to wait three to four days, for the snow to settle, and even then there is still a danger of avalanches. You should only move along the groomed trails at the ski resorts and wait at least 48 hours for the snow to settle and bind,” Grbo told FENA.

Grbo also warns drivers to be careful and pay attention while driving. He singled out the roads along Lašva valley ‘because the snow had nothing to tie in to”, so it stayed on the leaves and “we just have to wait for a certain weight to move it. The same goes for the Bistrica River canyon.”

“Drivers should be very careful on the road, not to stop in canyons, especially for the sake of taking photos, they should forget about it for now,” he said.
