Rescuers from BiH returned to Sarajevo after several Weeks of Assistance in Slovenia

Last night, a convoy made up of the material, technical and human capacities of the protection and rescue services of the Canton of Sarajevo, which provided assistance to the Republic of Slovenia in the rehabilitation of the consequences of catastrophic floods, returned to Sarajevo, reports Anadolu Agency.

As the director of the Sarajevo Cantonal Civil Protection Administration Dženan Brkanić pointed out, Sarajevo rescuers were sent to threatened areas through the European Union Mechanism for Civil Protection, where Bosnia and Herzegovina, as a member of the Mechanism, immediately made itself available.

Out of a total of six vehicles sent to Slovenia, four are vehicles of the Cantonal Administration of Civil Protection of the Canton of Sarajevo, and two of the Civil Protection of the RS.

“Our services spent 15 days on the field, from August 12, where they did an excellent job in the field clearing and rehabilitation. Everything went smoothly and I must point out that I am proud of our guys who were welcomed in Slovenia with enthusiasm,” Brkanic said.

CS Prime Minister Nihad Uk also attended the reception of the rescuers from our country, saying that it was the first action of this type for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“For the first time, a coordination mechanism is being established at the level of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and for the first time a rescue mission of this kind has been successfully completed. In Slovenia, they are very satisfied, we received thanks from all sides,” said Uk.

Acting the director of the Federal Administration of Civil Protection, Murat Baručija, said that everything went without problems, and that the most important thing is that the procedure of the EU Mechanism was followed, which is especially important considering that Bosnia and Herzegovina is not a member of the European Union.

“The Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina reacted quickly. I have to praise the fact that for the first time rescuers from the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Republika Srpska went together, and it was a joint mission. We are the youngest country in the Mechanism and we managed to do a good job. On January 1, we joined the Mechanism and we already had our first intervention,” Baručija said.
