Romania’s acting president, Ilije Boloian, announced on Wednesday that the country will gradually increase its defense spending until 2030.

“On the one hand, Romania will gradually increase its defense spending until then, in order to get closer to its European partners and contribute to the defense of Europe, while on the other hand, it is developing projects that will improve national security,” he said after a meeting of the Supreme National Defense Council, the Agerpres news agency reported.

Boloian added that Romanian Defense Minister Angel Tilvar will present these decisions during technical talks on the preparation of the NATO summit in the second half of June in The Hague.

According to Boloian, Romania’s increased spending will ensure the consolidated defense of the country as well as NATO’s eastern flank.

Romania’s Supreme National Defense Council also adopted a plan today to strengthen military mobility, within which a new bridge over the Danube is highlighted as one of the important projects, Tanjug reports.

“This plan envisages major infrastructure projects that simultaneously ensure civilian mobility, as well as those that will increase and ensure military mobility in this region of Southeast Europe in the coming years,” Bolojan said.

He added that his country has joined a new corridor of military mobility in the Balkans, with the project of a new bridge over the Danube, the construction of which is currently underway, AA writes.
