The Memory Module 2018 started in the Sarajevo City Hall with the opening of the exhibition of Ron Haviv under the title “Shadow of Memory”.

A world-famous photojournalist whose objective captured and introduced the world with war horrors that happened in BiH, is the winner of the award that the Module Memory project in Sarajevo is giving for a special contribution to preserving the culture of memory.

Nihad Kresevljakovic, one of the founders of the Memory Module program, handed over the award at the ceremony that took place in the City Hall.

The “Shadow of Memory” is an exhibition of rarely published or never seen photos of world-famous photographer Ron Haviv from the period of war in BiH.

Visitors had the opportunity to take a look at the photos that were thematically divided into seven different stories that were recorded during the aggression on BiH: “Sarajevo-April 6”, “Bijeljina”, “Life in War,” “Detention camps,” “Reunification,” “Soldiers”and” Srebrenica “. This exhibition reminded many people on the days of war.

His photographs represent a timeless testimony of all the horrible things that happened in our country. His life was also in danger numerous times. Thanks to his photographs from Bijeljina, the world got the opportunity to see a picture of the real nature of war that was taking place in BiH.

This was not the first time for him to testify murders of innocent civilians. However, he promised to do everything in his power in order to document those horrible crimes. His photographs were used in the trial against Radovan Karadzic, as well as in other processes.

The Memory Modul was opened with Haviv’s exhibition. It is a cultural program that is engaged in the preservation of the culture of memory, and its main motive is that things from the past must not be forgotten and we have to learn from them, because that is the only way for them not to be repeated.

The exhibition will be open until April 4th.
